WALL HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC GRADING POLICY
Student grades will be based upon all requirements as outlined in the course of study, as established by Wall High School and approved by the Wall Township Board of Education.
▪▪ Based upon pre-testing, prior musical experience, and post-testing, multiple means of assessment will be used to evaluate student achievement. Quizzes, written tests, performance tests, video recordings [portfolio assessment] individual performance evaluation [rubric], group performance and group rehearsal participation, critical thinking projects and individual practice [homework] will be used for assessment.
▪▪ Participation in the concerts and performances for each appropriate marking period is included in the calculation of the marking period grade point average. These performances constitute a significant portion of the marking period grade, as they are the outcome goal of the Band, Orchestra, Honors Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Honors Wind Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Honors Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Guitar Ensemble and Modern Rock Band
▪▪ Participation in evening marching band rehearsals and after school concert dress rehearsals for each appropriate marking period concerts are required for band students.
▪▪ If a student misses a dress rehearsal or concert performance or practice due to illness [with doctor’s note], observance of a religious holiday, major family life cycle event, death in the family, the teacher may assign a make-up project or alternative assessment.

▪▪ The teacher may designate extra credit opportunities for additional performances or activities.
▪▪ Students who are enrolled in Honors Music Courses
Chamber Choir are required to audition for All Shore Chorus. Students who are enrolled in Honors Wind Ensemble are required to audition for All Shore Band and Central Jersey Region II Band. Orchestra Honors students are required to audition for CJMEA Region II Orchestra. Students may be expected to submit periodic recordings of their individual performance of the All Shore and/or Central Jersey Audition Requirements for teacher feedback [portfolio assessment].
▪▪ Students who are enrolled in Wind Ensemble are required to learn the All Shore Symphonic Band audition requirements. They will perform a "mock" audition at school for the music instructor, for evaluation. Students may be required to submit periodic recordings of the All Shore requirements for evaluation [portfolio assessment].
▪▪ Pencils are required daily for each student enrolled in Band, Wind Ensemble, Choirs and Orchestra.
▪▪ All assignments and projects are to be submitted or performed in a timely manner. Late submission of assignments and projects may result in reduced grade points.
