Extra Help Schedule, Location, and Procedures 

• Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  In my experience, seeking help as soon as you feel you need clarification is the best way to remain successful in class.  

• Feel free to ask as many questions as you need and seek as much practice on skills as you would like.  Learning requires active participation and I am here to help facilitate that endeavor.  

• My door is always open, so even if it is not my extra help hours, feel free to stop in and ask your questions.  The only thing I ask is that you come prepared with questions and skills you would like to review.

• If you are working at home and have a question, feel free to email me the question.  I aim to be as responsive as I possibly can to email and I can address your question as soon as possible.

• Please do not wait until the day before an assessment to come to extra help.  A unit can be over four weeks so to think we can cover it all in one day is not realistic.

• Upon being absent, it is your responsibility to determine if you need help with the material you missed. If you do need assistance then please come to extra help only after you have obtained all materials missed and tried to read through them and understand the information first.  The time allotted for extra help does not allow me to reteach the lessons in its entirety.

Course Description

Statistics is the science of understanding data. This course begins with an overview of statistical design, visual representations of data, and measures of central tendency and explores how these elements can be applied to everyday real-life situations. This course aims to introduce students to the critical thinking skills they need to understand statistical topics that they may encounter in the popular media or their future careers. Students will learn to critically evaluate the statistical information they encounter during everyday life, with a focus on becoming intelligent consumers, rather than producers, of data. Technology will be used to simplify calculation and display charts and graphs, and also to generate and access appropriate data for activities and projects. Graphing calculators are used extensively in this course.

• No quitting: Challenge is normal. We can get stuck and then get ourselves unstuck.

Course Description: This course is a systematic investigation of the properties of the real number system. It emphasizes the basic concepts and language of sets, operations with polynomials, solving equations, solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations, and properties of exponents and radicals. It integrates the elements of algebra with technology, problem solving, application and mathematical modeling.

In this Algebra 1 College Prep class, students are expected to come prepared, be on time, and participate actively in learning. Respect for the teacher, classmates, and classroom environment is essential. Students should complete assignments on time, ask questions when they need help, and stay organized. Academic honesty is expected at all times. Phones and other distractions should be put away. A positive attitude and consistent effort are key to success in this course.

• Reveal Math Textbook (McGraw-Hill): This is the primary curriculum resource, offering clear explanations, guided practice, and problem-solving opportunities aligned with course standards.
   
• DeltaMath: An online platform used for skills practice, homework, and review. It provides instant feedback and allows students to improve through repeated practice.
   
• ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces): A personalized learning program that assesses each student’s current understanding and creates a customized path to fill in knowledge gaps and advance their learning.
