Introduction to TV: This is going to be a great year when you will learn to write, videotape, and edit short films, stop-motion animation, and commercials!

Yearbook 1, 2, 3, & 4 We will dive into Yearbook creation for our 2025 book!!

Intro to Television

Credits: 5

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

This course fulfills the graduation requirement for career education/practical arts.

This is an entry-level course in the history, theory, and techniques of TV Production. Technical and communication skills are emphasized for successful broadcast performance related to the television industry. Television production is a hands-on course providing students the opportunity to work both in groups and individually.

Introduction to Television:
Unit 1: Camera

This unit will cover how a camera works. We will also learn how to properly

frame a shot and about different camera moves. This information is the basis for everything else we will learn in TV production.

Unit 2: Editing

This unit will be revisited throughout the year as all projects will be edited and all students will be building on their editing knowledge.

Unit 3: Sequencing

This unit will cover how creating a variety of camera angles and moves during the production of a scene helps to better tell a story.

Unit 4: Storytelling

This unit covers the 10 plot points that make a good story. We will do a Stop Motion Animation video and utilize one or more plot points.

Unit 5: Audio

This unit covers the three different microphones we will use in class. Handheld, Boom, and Lavaliere. Students will create a How-To video for this unit.

Unit 6: Scriptwriting

This unit teaches the students how to write a properly formatted script.

Unit 7: Short Film

In this unit, students will take their short film script and produce, direct and edit it.

Unit 8: Commercials

In this unit, students will create their own commercials.

Unit 9: Public Service Announcements

In this unit, students will create their own public service announcements.

Unit 10: Ratings and Social Media

In this unit, students will learn about social media platforms and how they are used for ratings.

Yearbook 1,2,3, & 4

Course Description:

Yearbook 1:

This course introduces students to page makeup and layout, graphic arts, photojournalism, and the function of computer technology in the production of a yearbook. Students work collaboratively towards the completion of the school yearbook and will work as assistant design, club, or sports editors, working with a senior editor on assigned tasks. Students are required to devote time outside of the school day to photograph events.

Yearbook 2:

This course reinforces basic concepts learned in Yearbook Production 1, and students are expected to take on additional responsibilities. Those students who display outstanding leadership qualities and proficiency in yearbook creation are expected to work as assistant design, club, or sports editors, and will work with editors-in-chief on assigned tasks. Students are required to devote time outside of the school day to photograph events.

Yearbook 3:

This course reinforces basic concepts learned in Yearbook Production 1 and 2. Students are expected to take on additional responsibilities. Those students who display outstanding leadership qualities and proficiency in yearbook creation are expected to work as design, club, or sports editors, and staff, and will work with editors-in-chief on assigned tasks. Students are required to devote time outside of the school day to photograph events.

Yearbook 4:

This course reinforces basic concepts learned in Yearbook Production 1, 2, & 3. Students in this course who display outstanding leadership qualities and proficiencies in yearbook creation are expected to work as senior editors-in-chief and will work with design, club, or sports assistant editors, staff, and editors, on assigned tasks. Editors-in-Chief are responsible for working with all staff members to create an inclusive culture that will produce a book that reflects the entire school community. Students are required to devote time outside of the school day to photograph events.
